How to Make a Girl Laugh

Laughter is one way to make yourself memorable, and if you're meeting a girl that you think you might interested in, that can be very important.  Of course, you'd probably rather that the laughter came from something terribly witty that you said, rather than spilling your drinks all over your shirt and then tripping onto the floor, so keep these tips in mind when you're trying to make her laugh.

Don't be mean!  Malicious humor, whether directed at her, her friends, or even something as innocent as a television show or a local politician will make her think twice about ever seeing you again.  Keep your humor light and cheerful and don't fall into the trap of trash talking someone for cheap laughs.  The way a girl's mind works is that if you're that mean over something trivial, how much worse could you be if something important was on the line?

Laugh at yourself, but don't abuse yourself either.  While a certain ability to laugh at yourself is important, so is having self-esteem!  Self-confidence is attractive and if you're constantly telling funny stories that start with "I was so dumb..." she'll see that you don't have that.  Don't aggrandize yourself, but don't beat up on yourself either.  That's a sure path towards having her "lose" your number.

Laugh at her!  No, don't laugh at her if she trips and falls over, but laugh when she tells a joke.  This is one part of being a good listener, something that will get you lots of points if she can see that you're doing it genuinely.  While some girls like it if you hang on every word, just being attentive and treating her like an interesting person is usually enough.

Know your audience.  This can be a problem sometimes if you've just met someone.  You don't know if she's religious, what her politics might be, who she's related to.  That said, keep your humor light and stay away from hot-button topics like war and politicians.  No matter how long you've been saving that zinger about the governor, now is not the time to trot it out.

Make contact with her interests that is!  If you have something in common, some observations and comparisons about it should help make you more comfortable.  Joke about how bad it is being a library clerk at the same library, or how awful the foccacia has gotten at your favorite Italian eatery.  This gives her a way to remember you as well as  proof that you're not making things up.

Be confident and realize that you are a funny person.  A lot of telling a good joke or getting a girl to laugh is confidence, so remember that you are confident, and that you are funny.
